SEO White Hats vs Black Hats
What's the difference and what approach should you take?
I thought I would write this blog as a cautionary tale to those of you out there who are trying to learn search engine optimisation (SEO) for yourself on the internet.
There is tonnes of information for you about SEO on the internet that you can siphon knowledge from but I want you to stop for just a second and understand the difference between White Hats and Black Hats in the industry before you carry on.
A White Hat is someone that is willing to put in the extra effort to set up their SEO for long-term success and get legitimate rankings on search engines. A Black Hat will exploit holes in the search engine algorithms to better their rankings.
The problem with Black Hats is that if/when their techniques are discovered by the search engine, they will be penalised. It could be that they are dropped in the rankings or worse, it could mean that the site is completely removed from the search engine.
This would basically mean you would have to start from scratch again and it would have been a massive waste of your time!
“Considering “Google it” is a phrase most of us hear every day, can you really afford to be de-indexed?”
My suggestion… Just start with the White Hat approach. The search engine will reward you in time with higher rankings, and you will learn a lot of helpful skills along the way.
